What is meaning making?

Meaning making can be described as the process in which people give meaning to who they are, life and important events they experience. It is a process that is constantly present; sensemaking is intertwined in all the actions and decisions we make and the way we experience the world, even if we are not aware of it.

Meaning has to do with questions such as:

"Who are you?"

"What's important to you?"

"What do you need to stay standing?"

Parents will not often discuss meaning questions on their own. Parents are often so busy caring for their child that they lose sight of their own needs, are in survival mode, and sometimes feel guilty about having their own care needs or find the care burdensome.
