Marie-Jose Pulles

"As an experienced parent, our youngest son died of a brain tumor, I noticed 20 years ago that the care for terminally ill children was in its infancy. Urgency coupled with great interest led me on the path of pediatric palliative care. The first 8 years as a board member and chairman of the Friends of the Children's Oncological Center in Nijmegen and in that period I was the initiator of the book In the sign of life, the first book about pediatric palliative care in the Netherlands. ). After that I worked for many years as an independent consultant and project manager in pediatric palliative care. The PAL Foundation, the predecessor of the Kenniscentrum Kinderpalliatieve Zorg, was one of my clients. The most important project was the development of the Emma Home Team, connected to the AMC In all these years I have personally taught more than 100 families know and I have been deeply impressed by the unique and at the same time the universal in all their experiences. During my education at Harvard Medical School, a postgraduate medical school, where I was accepted as an exception because of my work experience, I developed great respect for physicians and other professionals who provide pediatric palliative care. They often fail to realize how great their significance is for families when they are able to assist them with the right knowledge, skills and attitude. As a member of the Supervisory Board of the Knowledge Center for Pediatric Palliative Care, I am pleased to continue to contribute to the improvement of this special care."
