Connecting in Prague during EAPC Congres

From new connections to a new Co-Chair and a Best Poster Award, Prague was a memorable congress for our Reference Group.

The EAPC World Congress in Prague provided a wonderful opportunity for the EAPC Children and Young People's Reference Group to come together once again. It was a pleasure to see both new and familiar faces and to discuss the latest developments in children's palliative care. These moments of connection are what make our Reference Group so valuable, bringing together professionals from different countries to share knowledge, experiences, and ideas.

Welcoming a new Co-Chair

The congress also marked the beginning of a new chapter for our Reference Group, with Deborah Gubler taking on the role of Co-Chair. Deborah is a paediatrician specialised in paediatric palliative care and currently practises in Zurich, Switzerland. We are delighted to welcome her in this new role.

Children's Palliative Care in the spotlight at the EAPC World Congres 2026

Children's palliative care was well represented throughout the congress programme. Topics such as perinatal palliative care, palliative sedation, and the transition from paediatric to adult services received considerable attention. It was inspiring to see how much knowledge was shared and how many colleagues are committed to improving care for children, young people, and their families.

Award winning

A special moment for our Reference Group was seeing Dr. Laure Dombrecht receive the Congress Best Poster Award. Laure is a senior researcher at the End-of-Life Care Research Group (Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University) and a member of our Reference Group steering committee. She received the award for her poster, "Physicians' Opinions on and Practical Experiences with Palliative Sedation Therapy in Children: An International Survey in Five European Countries."  This is a wonderful recognition of important international research on palliative sedation in children.

We look back on the congress with great enthusiasm and hope to continue building on the conversations and new connections in the months ahead. Whether you have been involved with the Reference Group for many years or have recently joined, we warmly invite you to contribute your ideas, share your experiences, and help strengthen children's palliative care across Europe.
